Why Meditate?

The purpose of meditation is to increase well-being. It supports the flow of our daily lives, expands our spiritual awareness, improves mental concentration, brings grounding and makes us feel more alive.

Meditation helps instil and maintain inner peace and, by settling the mind, can bring improved clarity to life situations and greater ease in dealing with everyday decisions.

Meditation balances the relationship between the mind, the emotions and the body, whilst providing a point of connection with the spark of the divine within.

Stillness of the body inspires stillness of the mind. Gentle focus on the breath brings awareness to the simplicity of the present moment.

Meditation does not demand that you do not think, but much more simply, invites you to let your thoughts float on when they arise, not giving them attention or adding to them, but letting them go. Do this with each thought in turn, and your thoughts will get quieter and quieter, moving further and further into the distance, as you seep deeper and deeper into the stillness and peace.
Meditation is never about giving yourself a hard time because you feel you haven't done it right. It can happen to every one of us that we struggle to quieten our thoughts. If you are new to meditation, have not practised in a while, or are experiencing stress or difficulty in any way, this is more likely to be the case. Notwithstanding, even when we feel we have had an unsuccessful session, the positive effects can still be felt later.

Developing a practice of meditation is beneficial in so many ways. Some of the benefits are, among others, greater self-acceptance, serenity, positive thinking and a sweeter connection with life.

Meditation Practice

I offer group and one to one sessions in simple sitting meditation. This is an opportunity to come together in sanctuary, turn within, find stillness, connect with our own inner wisdom, and awaken to the Great Spirit of Life.

There is a short introduction, which may include the reading of an inspiring piece of writing, or a chant, or sounding a singing bowl. 20 - 25 minutes will be spent in silence. The session ends with the invitation to come back to the body with a stretch and a rub down.

I also offer sessions in shaking and meditation. Vigorously giving the body a shake-out before sitting down to meditation can be a great way to release tensions, held emotions, thoughts, and even patterns of behaviour. Freeing the body has a relaxing impact on the mind. Shaking before a meditation can make it a lot easier for some people to let go of their thinking. It may be particularly fitting after work, as a great way of letting go of the working day.

A one to one session is a great way to gain an in-depth introduction to the practice or gives you the time and focus to re-connect. The form it takes will vary but will often include two short meditations, one of 10 minutes and one of 20 minutes, interspersed with chant, reflection or singing bowl sound bath. It lasts 45 minutes.
